The Association of Radiographers of Nigeria Potiskum chapter, has joined the global communities to celebrate the‘World Radiography Week 2025’, aimed at creating awareness, enhancing education, and improving community healthcare.
The event, themed “Empowering Healthcare Through Imaging Excellence,” offered free ultrasound scanning for over 200 women and diagnostic services to underserved members of the community at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital (YSSH), Potiskum.
Other activities conducted during the celebration include a symbolic awareness trek from Yobe State Specialist Hospital Potiskum to the Potiskum Main Market, where Radiographers engaged with the public on the importance of personal medical healthcare and the pivotal role of Radiographers in early disease detection and patient care.
In his address during a town hall meeting and awards presentation at Annoor Hotel, Potiskum. Associate Professor Mohammed Abba of Bayero University, outlined the Roles and Contributions of Radiographers in Healthcare and Patient Care Advancement.
He emphasized the transformative impact of Radiography in diagnostic medicine and its increasing academic recognition across Nigerian institutions.
As part of the event, four distinguished individuals were honoured for their exceptional contributions to healthcare development in Yobe State:
Those awarded are Hon. Ajiya Maina Kachalla – Member representing Machina, and Chairman House Committee on Health, Hon. Engr. Saminu Musa Lawan – Member representing Nangere, Hon. Ahmed Adamu BBK – Member representing Potiskum Central, and Dr. Zakari Usman – Medical Director, YSSH Potiskum.
In an interview with newsmen, Head of Radiography YSSH Potiskum Isyaku Mu’azu, commended the present administration for ongoing improvements in the health sector.
He appealed for urgent intervention in equipping the hospital with modern diagnostic tools such as CT scan machine, to meet the growing healthcare demands of the region.
The 2025 celebration marked a significant stride in promoting Radiography as a cornerstone of quality healthcare in Yobe State.
