Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has presented the 2026 proposed budget of over eight hundred and seventy billion naira for capital and recurrent services to the State House of Assembly.
Bala Mohammed said the capital expenditure is five hundred and sixty-seven billion, four hundred and sixty-six million, two hundred and sixteen thousand, six hundred and thirteen naira, fifteen kobo, representing sixty-five per cent of the total budget proposal.
He noted that the recurrent expenditure stands at three hundred and ten billion, six hundred and eighty-six million, six hundred and ninety-one thousand, two hundred and sixty-nine naira, forty-four kobo, representing thirty-five per cent of the budget.
Governor Mohammed explained that the proposed 2026 budget is forty-one point zero per cent higher than the 2025 budget as well as the supplementary budget presented within the year and considered by the State House of Assembly.
According to him, the increase is due to the anticipated rising cost of services resulting from the tax reform expected to take effect in January 2026.
He said his administration therefore adopted a conservative approach to ensure appropriate costing and proper capturing of government programmes and projects for realistic implementation.
Responding, the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Sulaiman, assured speedy passage of the budget and urged ministries and parastatals to support the respective House Committees in delivering their constitutional duties.
