The Taraba State Government has disclosed that blocking financial leakages has helped it generate sixteen billion naira in internal revenue between January and December 2024.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Danjuma Saigudu, made this known during an interview with newsmen in Jalingo.
The Permanent Secretary, who appreciated the state government’s efforts, attributed the increase to improved financial standing and governments commitment to blocking financial leakages, thereby enhancing transformation in the state.
Saigudu said, with the stringent measures put in place, the state is, however, optimistic of redoubling its previous revenue drive through payee, withholding, and property taxes, among others.
He admitted that the amount generated is the highest in the history of the state, emphasizing that the state would sustain the drive to improve the well-being of the people.
“You will recall that the ministry, with the approval of His Excellency, conducted a biometric of staff to ensure that those that are not supposed to be in the payroll are flush out. That is part of blocking leakages.”
“You also noticed that even the revenue of the state has increased from what it used to be. It has been between 8 to 10 billion Naira, but last year, it has increased to N18 billion, Saigudu explained.”
According to him, “the recent biometric exercise was done in good faith, and not to witch-hunt anyone in the system.”
He commended Governor Kefas for his prudent management of resources and for working closely with financial institutions in the state to boost the state’s revenue.
Saigudu assured that the administration of Governor Kefas is determined to ensure fiscal discipline, transparency, and accountability.
