The National Orientation Agency (NOA) Yobe State Directorate has called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to strengthen collaboration in combating human rights violations, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the state.
The appeal was made at the 77th Commemoration of International Human Rights Day 2025, held in Damaturu, with the theme “HUMAN RIGHTS OUR EVERYDAY ESSENTIAL”.
Acting Director of NOA Yobe State Directorate, Hajiya Maryam Usman Shettima, emphasized the importance of joint actions to mitigate SGBV and urged participants to partner with NOA in sensitizing the public about the dangers associated with human rights abuses and SGBV.
The State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Alhaji Labaran Babangida, commended the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and participants for their commitment to the commemoration, encouraging attendees to raise their voices against SGBV, domestic violence and seek justice.
The event featured a plenary session moderated by the NHRC, with contributions from CSOs, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Ministry of Justice, and FIDA, focusing on key human rights issues identified during the year under review.
