Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has attended the Kanem Borno Cultural Summit, alongside high-ranking personalities from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Buni expressed pleasure at the reawakening of the rich historical civilization and cultural heritage of the Kanem Borno empire.

“This programme does not only revive the traditions and culture of the people, but also a bridge between yesterday and today, the older and present generation, for peace and stability.

“As the theme of this celebration “Harnessing Culture for Peace and Regional Stability” suggests, we have a great opportunity in events such as this to exploit our cultural heritage for value reorientation, self-development and societal growth.

According to statement by the Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohstammed, Governor Buni emphasized the importance of leadership responsibilities, followership expectations, and parental duties, highlighting the need for youth discipline and preparation for future leadership.

The Governor recalled Kanem Borno’s fame in Quranic memorization, Islamic education, trade, and agriculture, noting the region’s lost sense of communality and brotherhood.

“We also lost the era when any father on any street irrespective of his social or economic status is a father to all, and has the command and control over any errant child”.

He decried social media conflicts among clergies, urging stakeholders to leverage the region’s cultural heritage for economic growth.
