CNG decried drug abuse among Youths in the region.

Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) Student’s Wing has decried the rising cases of drug abuse among Youths in Northern Nigeria which triggered thuggery, violent crimes and other anti social behaviors.

National Coordinator of the Student’s Wing of the Group (SW-CNG), Alhaji (Comrade) Jamilu Aliyu Charachi made the displeasure known during a one day Public lecture organized by the Borno State Chapter of (SW-CNG) with a theme “Building Responsible Student Leadership” held at the El Kanemi, University of Maiduguri.

Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charachi said combatting drug abuse, thuggery, extremism, hate speech and Campus violence through mentorship, education and value re-orientation was the compelling objectives that necessitated the Public lecture in Borno State.

The event which witnessed the presence of Students across Primary, Secondary and Tertiary education levels, Civil Society Organizations, Traditional Rulers, Academicians, Policy Makers as well as the Security Agents was for them to work towards eliminating the menace in collaboration with other relevant Stakeholders.

Director Logistics and Finance Student’s Wing of the Group, Fatima Abubakar noted that they choose to hold the programme at the higher Institution of learning to involve Students in Campuses and to inform them about the dangers of substance abuse and its effects on them at their post University era..

Fatima Abubakar added that they would sustain the Campaign via massive sensitization and awareness creation, which they conducted similar activity in four (4) Northern States and is determine to extend it to the remaining States.

Chairman of the Occasion, who also doubles as the Executive Chairman Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, Mali Bulama Mali Gubio described the programme as timely, while urging the Students to capitalize on it and build responsible leadership in their Campuses and beyond.

Chairman Gubio Local Government explained that the programme also aligned with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s post Insurgency recovery and consolidation drive of building academic institutions and entrepreneurial hubs to address the Youth restrictiveness as well as other social ill vices across the State.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Ibrahim Umara of Political Science Department, University of Maiduguri advised Students to be responsible and build a better career devoid of substance abuse that would make them viable and better Contender at the labour market in their Post University period.

The event also featured drama presentation by Students showcasing menace of drug abuse among Students and Society in general.
