Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has called on Nigerians to embrace prayers, unity, and collective responsibility as critical tools for sustaining peace and stability across the country.

The governor made the call during the maiden National Qur’an Recitation Day and special prayers for peace in Yobe State and Nigeria, held in Damaturu, the state capital.

The event brought together memorizers of the Holy Qur’an from across the federation.

Represented by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Abba Adam Idriss, Governor Buni described the gathering as a unique assembly of Qur’an memorizers drawn from every nook and cranny of Nigeria, united by a common purpose of seeking Allah’s intervention for peace, tranquility, and stability in the nation and Yobe State in particular.

He noted that beyond prayers, the essence of the gathering was to encourage every Qur’an memorizer present to contribute meaningfully to nation-building and the promotion of peaceful coexistence.

In an address of welcome, the Yobe State Coordinator of the National Qur’anic Recitation and Senior Special Adviser on Religious Affairs to the Governor, Ustaz Babagana Mallam Kyari, disclosed that about 56 groups of Qur’an memorizers from across the country converged on Damaturu for the programme.

According to him, the gathering was aimed at praying for lasting peace in Yobe State and Nigeria at large.

Ustaz Mallam Kyari commended Governor Buni for his consistent efforts in promoting peace, unity, and social harmony, particularly through policies that support and empower the less privileged, including orphans and widows.

He emphasized that seeking Allah’s guidance and intervention remains the surest solution to societal challenges.

He further urged members of the public to always remember leaders at the national, state, and local government levels in their prayers, asking Allah to guide them in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards of excellence to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, and the State Coordinator of the National Qur’anic Recitation, Ustaz Babagana Mallam Kyari, in recognition of their contributions to the promotion of Qur’anic and Tsangaya education in Yobe State and beyond, by the National Quranic Recitation Body.
