Nigeria’s First Lady donates sanitary pads to school girls in Bauchi State

Nigeria’s First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has donated ten thousand packages of disposable sanitary pads to female students for improved personal and environmental hygiene across Bauchi State.

During the distribution exercise held at the Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu square, Government House Bauchi, Oluremi Tinubu said the initiative was in line with the renewed hope agenda of the present administration.

Represented by the wife of Bauchi State Governor Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, the first Lady explained that the items were given to ensure the girls do not miss classes due to lack of sanitary pads while observing their menstruation for a complete one year.

She pointed out that three thousand packages of the pads have been distributed to adolescent girls across various secondary schools in the state capital while the remaining seven thousand will be shared among rural communities in other Local Government Areas.

The first lady urged traditional and religious leaders to ensure judicious utilisation of the over two billion naira worth of commodity.

On her part, a gender officer in the State ministry of health Zuwaira Y.M Baba who encouraged the students to always observe personal hygiene, advised them to eat okro soup regularly during their menstrual cycle to gain more blood.

Some of the beneficiaries spoken to, Light Henry and Hafsat Isa appreciated the First Lady for the gesture, describing it as timely considering the socio-economic challenges faced in the country.
