Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved over three hundred and ninety-eight million naira for the implementation of the 2026 Ramadan feeding programme and Tafsir activities across the state.

The initiative, to be executed through the State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-Orientation, is aimed at supporting vulnerable and less-privileged residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

As part of efforts to expand the programme, the Governor approved an increase in the number of feeding centres from one hundred and one recorded last year to one hundred and thirty centres spread across the seventeen Local Government Areas of the state.

Each feeding centre is expected to provide Iftar meals for one hundred persons daily throughout the fasting period, enabling thousands of beneficiaries to access relief during Ramadan.

A breakdown of the approval indicates that over three hundred and thirty-eight million naira will be utilised for the procurement of rams and cooking condiments to facilitate feeding activities at the designated centres.

In addition, sixty million naira has been approved for the payment of allowances to Muslim clerics who will conduct Tafsir sessions, providing religious teachings and spiritual guidance to the faithful during the fasting period.

To further strengthen the programme, the Governor also approved the distribution of two thousand three hundred bags of rice and four hundred jerrycans of cooking oil to the one hundred and thirty feeding centres across Yobe.

Flagging off the distribution exercise, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-Orientation, Alhaji Yusuf Umar Kaigaman Potiskum, commended the Governor for sustaining and expanding the Ramadan feeding initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to the welfare of the less privileged.

He noted that the programme has continued to provide relief to many families across the state, particularly during the fasting period, and urged committee members supervising the centres to manage the distributed items responsibly.

The Commissioner also warned against diversion or mismanagement of the materials, directing all officials involved to strictly adhere to government guidelines to ensure transparency and effective implementation.

The initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to supporting citizens, especially vulnerable groups, while promoting religious devotion, unity, and community support during the holy month of Ramadan.
