The Director-General of the Borno State Great Green Wall Agency, Ambassador Usman Aliyu, has commended the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for its role in sensitising the public on the effects of climate change, particularly drought and flooding caused by global warming and harmful human activities.
Ambassador Aliyu gave the commendation while receiving the General Manager of Peace FM Maiduguri, Abba Mohammad Dikko, and members of his management team during a courtesy visit to the agency’s nursery site along Damboa Road in Maiduguri.
The Director-General congratulated Abba Dikko on his appointment as General Manager of Peace FM Maiduguri and urged him to reposition the station for greater success, pledging to visit the station for a ceremonial tree-planting exercise.
Ambassador Aliyu commended the administration of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for its commitment to restoring greenery in the state through afforestation initiatives and for finding him worthy of the appointment.
He called on residents of the state to embrace tree planting and reduce activities that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, which pollute and degrade the ozone layer, leading to climate change.
Speaking earlier, the General Manager of Peace FM Maiduguri, Abba Mohammad Dikko, expressed admiration for the Director-General’s commitment to afforestation, noting that his passion for tree planting dates back to his secondary school days.
He added that Ambassador Aliyu’s dedication and achievements in environmental sustainability earned him the confidence of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Abba Dikko reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to its motto, “Plant, Protect and Nurture Trees,” expressing optimism that Borno State would become green again in the coming years.
