A concerned citizen in Borno State, Garba Maidawa Traditional Medicine, has called on traditional rulers, Northern elders and political leaders to speak out against the worsening insecurity and other challenges affecting communities across Northern Nigeria.
Maidawa made the call while expressing his concern over what he described as “the prolonged silence of influential Northern leaders on the crises confronting the region”.
Speaking in Hausa, Maidawa said the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State should serve as a warning about the consequences of ignoring early signs of insecurity, injustice and other grievances.
He attributed the worsening situation partly to what he described as injustice and failure by authorities to respond promptly to emerging threats, warning that continued negligence could have serious consequences for the entire region.
Maidawa said the deteriorating security situation is affecting businesses and the livelihoods of ordinary people across Northern Nigeria.
He appealed to Northern leaders and elders to break their silence and take decisive steps, towards addressing the challenges, stressing that his intervention was motivated by concern for Nigeria and the desire to see lasting peace and stability return to the region.
