The Kebbi State Government has finalised arrangements for the annual Rigata Cultural Festival in Yauri Local Government Area.

Addressing journalists, the National Chairman of the Organising Committee and Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala Tafida, said this year’s festival would feature a range of spectacular and thrilling events aimed at showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Yauri Emirate.

He stated that the festival would include a trade fair exhibition, an agricultural show, cultural entertainment, and economic investment opportunities.

Tafida further disclosed that, in connection with the festival, the committee had secured an investment worth approximately 200 million US dollars in the mining sector within the area.

Our correspondent reports that the Rigata Cultural Festival derives its name from the Gunganci word Rigata, which means “Marine War.”

The festival, which dates back over 200 years, began as a display of naval strength by the Gungu people, where warriors annually battled the most dangerous hippopotamus in the River Niger.
