NAFDAC,PCN Seals Over One Thousand Unregistered Medicine Wholesalers Outlets in Kano.

The National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) alongside Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed over One thousand Unregistered wholesale medicine outlets in Kano.
The Director of Investigation and Enforcement Mr Francis Onilowu made the disclosure while briefing Newsmen in Kano.
He said NAFDAC in an effort to sanitized the concept of selling Drugs in Kano the Agency alongside Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria carried out an operation over the weekend which is inline with the mandate of the regulatory body.
He said the aim of the closure was to sanitized drug distribution of drugs in Nigeria geared towards enhancing the health status of the general public.
Francis said the sudden change of movement of medicine in supply chain from manufacturer to the final consumer is inimical to the efficacy of manufacturer’s of pharmaceutical product, and in primary cause of standard and fortified medicines circulation in Nigeria .
“over the years the medicine dealers in Kano have resisted all attempt by concerned regulatory authority to locate their pharmaceutical business to from open drugs market of Malam Kato square and Sabongari to the coordinated wholesale center in Dangwauro area of the state, which was built by the state governmen many years ago.”
He said the duo agencies have sealed a total of 1,321 wholesale medicine outlets in three open markets within Kano metropolitan.
MR Francis Onilowu called on the owners of sealed properties to relocate to Dangwauro and also to register with the NAFDAC.
In her remark the Director Inspection, monitoring and quality assurance pharmacy council of Nigeria Dr Amina Shekarau said aim of sealing the Unregistered Drug wholesalers shops at Mai karami Plaza, Niger street , Malam Kato and Sabon Gari Market was to sanitized the whole structure of drug distribution.
” We’ve calling on them to relocate to the coordinated wholesale center which has been structured according global drug distribution practices,with all the needed facilities,but unfortunately these people refused to relocate”
She urged unregistered drug distribution wholesalers to always be law abiding,with the aim of achieving the stated goals .
