FARMERS IN YOBE COMMENDS USAID,FEED THE FUTURE,IITA AND ICRISAT FOR THEIR INTERVENTION IN THE STATE.

Farmers in Potiskum, Fika and Nangere LGAs of Yobe State have called for more humanitarian support to boost all agriculture activities in the Northeastern region of the country.

The district heads of Tikau, Gadana and Gadaka made the call in their separate remarks, during a follow up visit by Feed the Future, United States Agency for International Development USAID funded Project, which was implemented by International Institute for Tropical Agriculture IITA and International Crop Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics ICRISAT.

They called on other developmental partners in the country to help provide fertilizer and other farming inputs at a subsidized rate to farmers.

Country Representative of ICRISAT Dr Angarawai Ignitius, represented by Mr Jerom Jonah emphasized on the need to use climate smart crops which are resistant to pest, diseases and rain shortage to reduce the risk of hunger and food shortage.

Mr Jerom called on farmers to always observe their farm lands, and plants the right crops in time.

Team lead of the implementing partners, Mr Joseph Abikoye, of the internationa Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA said the community based seeds production has provided varieties of crops to seeds producers.

It would be recalled that, Feed the Future, USAID funded program has trained farmers, on community based seeds production and pest control in Yobe State.
