NEDC to execute developmental projects across the twenty local government areas of Bauchi State

The North East Development Commission NEDC says it will execute two developmental projects in each of the twenty local government areas of Bauchi State.

The Managing Director of the Commission Muhammad Goni Alkali gave the indication when he led other top management of the Commission to inspect Babban Mutum Science Primary and Junior Secondary School Shekal in Bauchi local government.

Muhammad Goni said the gesture is part of the commission’s mandate to states across the subregion, and the projects are situated based on the choice need of the benefitting communities.

He further disclosed that six classrooms, toilets, a borehole and furniture would be provided at the School for improved teaching and learning.

Responding, the Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Dr Abubakar Surunbai Sheikh Dahiru who expressed appreciation to NEDC for the gesture, restated the resolve of the board to reducing the number of out of school children in the state.

Also Speaking, thd Leader of Shekal community Sadiqu Inuwa Zubairu said the gesture has come at the right time as the community has embarked on renovation of some structures, securing the school as well as strict monitoring and Supervision of teaching and learning.

Earlier, the Principal Babban Mutum Junior Secondary School Shekal Isma’ila Iliyasu Manga said with over 1500 students, 56 staff and less than 10 classrooms, observing the COVID-19 protocol of social distancing will be difficult.

The School established in 1948 currently has over four thousand pupils and students, over one hundred teaching and non teaching staff, 5 blocks of two classrooms each with few or zero furniture.
