The Victims Support Fund VSF in collaboration with Borno state government have launched the distribution of dry season farming inputs to three thousand farmers in two local government areas of the state.

The intervention is part of VSF 2023 project to support the Borno state agricultural initiative in Gamboru Ngala and Izge in Gwoza Local government Area.

Flagging off the exercise in Ngala, Chairman of the Foundation, General Theophilus Danjuma, expressed delight that peace has been restored to the state and people have returned back to their communities to engage in meaningful ventures.

Represented by the Executive Director VSF, Professor Nana Tanko, General Danjuma said 1,800 beneficiaries will be supported in Gamborun Ngala while the remaining 1,200 will received their farm inputs in Izge.

According to him, this is the last major intervention to be implemented by VSF in Borno state.

“Is evident that the local government is adequately engaged in dry season farming and have no doubt that the items brought will add a lot of value to the farmers” Danjuma remarked.

Borno state Governor, Babagana Zulum represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Bawu Musami, observed that rainfed farming is no more sustainable due to the effects of climate change, hence the need for an extensive irrigation farming.

He said the dry season farming support by the VSF is timely and will go a long way in providing food in the state and the nation at large.

“VSF had always been there for the state in times of need, and today they are here again to give full support to the farmers in the state” Zulum said.

The Governor urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the farm inputs given to them so as to make their communities and the state food secured.

Two of the beneficiaries, Ali Baba and Bulama Mustapha, expressed gratitude to Victims Support Fund for the intervention.

Items presented to each farmer include, 25kg of rice seed, 50kg of fertilizer, two liters of Insecticides, one liter of herbicide and a sprayer.
