National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has received 37 cases of human trafficking across Bauchi State in the past year.

The NAPTIP’s Head of Operations, Bauchi State Office, Mr Abdurrahman Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with journalists shortly after a media parley on the merits of domesticating and enforcing the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law in Bauchi State.

He stated that in February 2025, the agency secured a conviction against a perpetrator of human trafficking in the state.

“The individual was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and fined no less than two million naira” he explained.

Mr Abdullahi explained that the jail term and fine imposed on the convict aligned with the amended law enshrined in the Act that established the agency.

He further noted that NAPTIP had intensified grassroots awareness campaigns on the dangers and consequences of human trafficking.

The Head of Operations urged the public to support the agency by reporting any suspicious activities in their communities for prompt action.

He also warned young people, as well as parents and guardians, against falling prey to individuals operating under false pretences.
