The Yobe State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improve the value chain in livestock production through new technologies in the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr Musa Abba Kolere, stated this during an interview with Radio Nigeria Correspondent in Damaturu.

The Permanent Secretary of Livestock Development pointed out that Yobe as the highest livestock-producing state in Nigeria, the state government is taking proactive measures by vaccinating cattle and other animals against transboundary animal diseases.

“You know we have a very large border between Niger Republic and Yobe State, about five local governments areas: Geidam, Yusufari, Yunusari, Machina and Nguru all these are bordering the Niger Republic, a lot of Cattle and other animals are coming in from Niger to Yobe State, and one of the main ways of preventing transborder diseases is by vaccination,” Dr Kolere said.

Speaking on the lingering Herders/Farmers’ clashes, Dr Abba Kolere explained that the Yobe State pilot livestock programme and Agro Rangers, in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock Development, usually organized meetings and workshops as a step to addressing the challenges by educating both parties on the importance of living in peace with one another.

“One of the ways is by developing our grazing reserves, if we developed our grazing reserved and all Herders in grazing reserved there will be very little transpassing to neighbouring farms that will cause misunderstanding”He stated.

He, therefore, encouraged the pastoralists to support the Yobe State Government policies and programmes to enrol their children in the schools provided in the grazing reserves.

The Permanent Secretary added that education is the key to success in every aspect of life.
