Bauchi State Government and local communities have been urged to take full ownership of development projects to ensure their long-term sustainability.
Deputy Country Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund, (UNICEF) in Nigeria, Dr Rownak Khan, gave the indication during a visit to Dondore community in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
Dr Khan emphasised that while UNICEF has provided financial support to Bauchi State over the years, the aIo will now focus on offering technical assistance to aid planning and sustainability efforts.
She commended the leadership of Dondore for prioritising local nutrition solutions for women and children, promoting exclusive breastfeeding, ensuring full immunisation, improving environmental sanitation and personal hygiene, and constructing household toilets to eliminate open defecation.



Speaking on behalf of the community, the Hamlet Head of Dondore, Malam Isah Madaki, expressed gratitude to UNICEF for supporting the community in enhancing social and health conditions.
He acknowledged that, as a small village, they had not expected UNICEF’s intervention but were now witnessing a transformation in their quality of life.
The Ward Head of Dondore called on the government to construct a health facility in the community to provide antenatal care, skilled delivery and child immunisation services.
