245 Households in Bauchi Receive Palliatives from Islamic Relief USA

A United States faith based Organisation, Islamic Relief USA has donated food and non food items worth 70,000 dollars to 245 households in ten community support zones of Mala Dumba Lake and Forest Reserves of Bauchi State.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Misau, Zonal Coordinator Nigerian Conservation Foundation NCF, Mohammad Garba Boi said the Islamic Relief entrusted them to distribute the items as palliative to the community support zone.

Mohammad Boi said the aim of the gesture was to ginger them protect the forest’s birds, insects and other species of creatures from extinction as well as to help in preserving the natural environment and the lake.

He charged people of the communities to protect the lake from siltation as well as preserve and conserve the natural environment for the benefit of all creatures.

The Zonal Coordinator explained that the palliative is also designed to be given to the needy, less privileged, orphans and the vulnerable in the support zone community for them to observe Ramadan fast with ease.

“wood stoves were also provided to prevent them from felling down trees to make charcoal to prevent erosion and desertification” Mohammad Boi said.

He therefore urged residents of the Community Support Zones to shun activities that would destroy the lake and its environment for their benefit and other creatures.

In a remark, the General Manager Bauchi State Tourism Corporation Dr. Muhammad Nasiru Yusuf who applauded NCF and the donour organization for the gesture solicited for more support to the residents to enable them protect the lake.

Dr Muhammad Nasiru urged the benefiting communities to use the items judiciously to enable other donour organizations have confidence in them.

Some of the beneficiaries spoken to, Lamido Abdullahi and the village Head of Sumawa Muhammad Sarkina Shehu who thanked the organization for the gesture said it will motivate them to develop interest in preserving and conserving the Lake and the environment.

They called on the state government and other relevant agencies to distill Mala Dumba Lake to prevent it from siltation.

Items distributed Include rice, millet, date palm, salt, sugar, milk, cooking oil, beans, watermelon as well as cooking stove among others.

Radio Nigeria gathered that Nigerian Conservation Foundation has been championing the course of supporting Community Support Zone in its routine programme to prevent them from destroying the lake and the environment.
