FG Reaffirms Commitment Towards Supporting Innovations of Addressing Post Harvest lost Among Farmers

The Federal Government has Reaffirms it’s determination in providing all the needed support for initiating modern innovation to address post harvest lost Among Farmers across the Nation.

The Minister of State for Industry and Investment Senator John Owo Disclosed this during the Flagg Off of a modern Onion Storage Facility Established by Prism Foods Limited in Dawakin Kudu local government Areas of Kano State.

Senator Owan Enoh expressed delight and excitement over the facility, calling it the first of its kind in Africa.

He commended Prism Foods Limited for investing heavily in a solution to post-harvest losses,saying it will enhance food security and encourage entrepreneurship, ultimately boosting the nation’s economy.

The Minister emphasized that facilities like Prism Foods Limited will pave the way for more job opportunities and improve food security.

“By providing a reliable storage solution for onions and other perishable commodities, the facility will play a vital role in effective service delivery, supporting the nation’s agricultural development.”

“This initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s agenda to curb post-harvest losses, potentially increasing farmers’ income and creating more job opportunities for youths”

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf represented by the Commissioner for Commerce Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi Lauded Prism Foods Limited for establishing such a huge investment in Kano.

He noted that Kano state government was committed towards providing all the needed support to ensure that Agricultural produce were being enhanced .

CEO of Prism Foods Limited,Mr. Aman Gupta, highlighted that the massive post-harvest losses encountered by onion farmers prompted the establishment of this facility.

He said the facility would be able to storage ten tonnes of onion at a time.

Alhaji Aliyu Maitasamu Chairman of the National Onion Producers, Processors, and Marketers Association of Nigeria, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the facility will significantly reduce post-harvest losses of onions and other perishable commodities.

Maitasamu noted that their association produces two million metric tonnes of onions, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials for the facility.

He lauded the federal and state governments for their support in making this project a reality.

The state-of-the-art onion storage facility located in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area valued at over N10 billion, which aims to tackle the pressing issue of post-harvest losses faced by onion farmers in the region.
