NEDC, Makesafe Humanitarian Safety Services, Organises Workshop for Security Agencies in Yobe

In a collaborative effort to sensitize the general public on the dangers of explosive ordnance, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and Makesafe Humanitarian Safety Services Ltd have organized a workshop for security agencies and residents in Yobe State.

The event, held at Cedars Recreation Center in Damaturu, had participants drawn from seven selected local government areas of the state.

The Deputy Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Honourable Ya’u Usman Dachia, represented by Honourable Bulama Bukar, a member representing Gujba constituency, commended the NEDC for organizing the workshop while declaring it open.

He urged participants to be attentive and assured support for the security agencies in curtailing the menace of insurgency in the state.

Speaking at the event, the CEO of Makesafe Humanitarian Safety Services Ltd, Group Captain Sadiq Garba Shehu (rtd), stressed that the objective of the training is to educate the public on the dangers of explosive ordnance left after conflict.

He added that the workshop is a “Train the Trainers” programme in which participants are expected to cascade the knowledge gained to their communities.

Some participants, Abubakar Garba and Adamu Salisu, interviewed by Radio Nigeria, thanked the organizers of the workshop, describing it as timely.

In a related development, the North East Development Commission, in collaboration with Conflict Security and Development Consultant Limited, organized a three-day workshop for members of the civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilante groups in the state.

Speaking at the event, also held at Cedars Recreation Centre in Damaturu, Yobe State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Sale Samanja, stated that the training aimed to address the rules of engagement and rules on the use of force while fighting insurgency and other criminality in the state.

According to the Commissioner, the training is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of policies, laws, and the correct use of force while carrying out their mandates.

Also speaking, Security Adviser to the Yobe State Government, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), explained that the training focused on preventing the misuse of authority and overstepping of boundaries by civilian JTF and vigilantes while discharging their duties.
