Bauchi State Government has called for improved collaboration among emergency response stakeholders to curtail flood and fire disasters as the rainy season approaches.
The State’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, made the appeal during a 2025 preparedness engagement campaign organised by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Bauchi.
She disclosed Governor Bala Mohammed has provided a conducive atmosphere for inter-agency cooperation to safeguard lives and property across the state, stressing that collective action was a vital strategy towards achieving the target.
Hajara Wanka described the stakeholders’ meeting as timely, describing it as pivotal to building community resilience, reducing disaster risks, and enhancing readiness across Bauchi State.
She noted that based on the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s forecast of climate-related risks in Bauchi, Governor Bala has directed her ministry to strengthen disaster response in vulnerable areas.
Earlier, NEMA Team Leader, Mr Samuel Bitrus, lauded Bauchi State’s proactive steps towards disaster preparedness, saying they align with national efforts to tackle emergencies effectively.
Mr Bitrus stated that NEMA is engaging both state and non-state actors nationwide to improve coordination and strengthen response mechanisms before disasters strike.
The engagement culminated in a simulation awareness campaign at Muda Lawan Market in Bauchi metropolis, targeting traders and community leaders on safety and emergency response.
