The World Bank assisted Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services, (IMPACT) Project, has trained 100 newly contracted midwives and nurses on service conditions.
The orientation and training event witnessed by stakeholders in the health section, was organised by the Bauchi state Primary Health Care Board through the IMPACT Project.
Addressing participants, the Programme Manager of the IMPACT Project, Dr Adamu Muhammad, said the engagement aims to complement government efforts in tackling worrying indictors of maternal and child mortality in the state.
Dr Muhammad explained that the health workers were deployed to remote communities across the 20 local government areas of the state with a view to strengthening access to basic health care.
He added that the midwives and nurses would serve in primary health centres, delivering antenatal, childbirth, postnatal, and child spacing services to rural populations.
State Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, urged the personnel to demonstrate professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities diligently.
Represented by Director of Nursing Services, Abdussalam Abubakar, Dr Dambam warned them against misconduct, emphasising that they would be monitored by relevant professional bodies.
The training covered normal and complicated midwifery signs, antenatal and postnatal care, and an introduction to the Open Data Kit, ODK, checklist development among others.
