Taraba state Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas has announced plans to establish a joint integrated intelligence network across the sixteen local areas of the state to improve security.
He made this known during an expanded security meeting held at TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.
Governor Kefas pointed out that the need to strengthen security across the state became imperative due to pockets of security threats in parts of the country and particularly in states bordering Taraba.
According to him, the intelligence network is a cutting-edge rapid response system, which would take advantage of local collaboration and intelligence to stay ahead of security threats.
Governor Kefas highlighted the need for synergy between government agencies, traditional institutions, and local governments emphasizing the importance of proactive intelligence gathering in addressing insecurity.
He said, moving forward, local community security structures will be activated,where each local government area will establish security desks involving youths, traditional rulers, religious leaders, hunters, and vigilante groups.
The Governor ordered the protection of critical assets, including farmlands, forests, and waterways, through joint patrols and enforcement of laws against illegal activities, especially mining.
Governor Kefas called for the empowerment of faith-based organizations and traditional institutions to organize monthly peace and security forums at the ward and local government levels.
