World Bank ranks Bauchi AGILE 3rd among 11 AF States in project Implementation.

The World Bank has ranked Bauchi State third among the eleven Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE Additional Funding states in terms of successful implementation of the various components under the project.

The State Project Coordinator and Focal Person AGILE Hajiya Ladi Hamma stated this at a Stakeholders Engagement and Sensitisation of School Leadership to include Principals, Local Government SBMC Leads and PTA Chairmen from Bauchi Cluster held in Bauchi.

The stakeholders engagement training is on the implementation of Life Skills sub component in 100 Senior Secondary Schools across the 20 Local government areas of the state.

Hajiya Ladi Hamma said the state is ranked third after Zamfara and Sokoto in terms of implementation of various components to include Conditional Cash Transfer, Schools renovation, sensitisation and advocacy campaigns, engagement with stakeholders among others.

“Some of the successes recorded include Bauchi being third among AF States to disburse and start the work for renovation which is component 1.2 and the second state to start new construction which is expected to begin by the first week of August.”

“Bauchi is also going to be the second AF state that would start disbursement on CCT; financial incentives component,a scholarship for Adolescent girls”, PC Ladi Hamma clarifies.

While acknowledging the challenges encountered in implementing some of the activities to include inaccessibility to some hard-to-reach areas due to the rainy season, the Project Coordinator charged the participants to work towards establishing Safe Space in their various schools for the girls to have a corner for counselling and personal development.

Earlier, the Chairman State AGILE Steering Committee and Commissioner of Education Dr Lawal Mohammed said the life skills component is a very important sub component of the project as it would empower the girls with knowledge to navigate through livelihood challenges, hence the need for the participants to pay close attention to ensure it success.

In a presentation, the Component Lead Life Skills Malama Suwaiba Tahir said the training is aimed at informing the stakeholders about the contents of the life skills training manual to ensure seamless adoption and implementation.

Sabuwa Tahir listed some of the activities designed in the life skills training manual to include health and nutrition, reproductive health, menstrual health and hygiene, Safety measures and Gender-based Violence, climate change, critical thinking-problem solving and communication skills among many others.

“The life skills training which is contained in a manual and not a curriculum has six modules to include Education, Key Life Skills, Health and Nutrition, GBV and Climate Change,” the Component Lead lists.

In separate goodwill messages, the Dean of Bauchi State Education Secretaries Dr Nasiru Fanti and representatives of State Agencies for Mass Education, Nomadic Education and Special Schools Management Board promised total support to any programme working to uplift the girl child in the state.

The training was organised for participants in Bauchi Cluster of the project with 10 LGAs to include Alkaleri, Bauchi, Kirfi, Bogoro, Dass, Ganjuwa, Tafawa Balewa, Warji, Ningi and Toro.
