Yobe State Gov’t Moves to End Farmers-Herders Conflict.

The Yobe State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing strategies to mitigate the incidents of farmers-herders conflict in the state.

The Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Security Affairs, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam stated this during a meeting with the leaders of the Herders association in Damaturu, the state capital.

He explained that the meeting between security agencies and the leadership of transhuman nomadic groups aims to provide a lasting solution to the lingering farmers-herders clashes across the state.

Gen. Abdulsalam said the government will also consider banning the bearing of cutlasses in a discriminatory manner.
The Special Adviser pointed out that the temporary closure of Kukareta, Katarko, and Buni-Yadi weekly markets in the state was a proactive measure to ensure public safety, with ongoing operations in those areas to prevent potential security breaches.

He further urged members of the cattle rearers association to support the security agencies operating in the state with meaningful and timely information on any suspicious persons or groups that would help them achieve their mandate.

In separate remarks, the National President of the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association, Kalil Muhammad Bello; the state Chairmen of the Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Haruna Adamu; Miyatti Allah Kautal Hore Cattle Rearers Association, Alhaji Ori Bello; and the Al-hidaya Cattle Rearers Association, Alhaji Gajimi, expressed willing to work in collaboration with the security agencies towards ensuring their success in fight against any act of crimes in the state.

The meeting was attended by the heads of security agencies in the state, including the Sector 2 Commander of the North East Operation Hadin Kai, Police Commissioner, Director DSS, State Commander National Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commander Agro Rangers and that of Vigilante groups.
