Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has declared open the North East Zonal Public Hearing on the amendment of the Nigerian Constitution, calling on all stakeholders to actively participate and contribute meaningfully to the exercise.

Speaking at the event held at the International Conference Centre in Gombe, the Governor commended the leadership of the National Assembly for bringing the crucial exercise to the North East and for giving Nigerians the opportunity to deliberate on key national issues.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya noted that constitutions are not static documents, but must evolve to reflect the dynamic aspirations and needs of the people.

While declaring the event open, he expressed optimism that the deliberations at the hearing would enrich the constitutional review process, deepen democratic culture, and ultimately improve the living conditions of Nigerians.

He emphasized that his administration places high regard on public opinion, often organizing stakeholder consultations to ensure that the voices of the people inform government policies and programmes aimed at safeguarding their welfare.

In line with this commitment, the Governor directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, alongside other relevant officials, to present a comprehensive memorandum on behalf of Gombe State, expressing hope that the committee would give due consideration to the state’s position in the spirit of national unity and progress.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the North East Zonal Committee and Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, assured participants that all their inputs and contributions would be duly forwarded and deliberated upon at the national level for the benefit of the citizenry.

Hon. Kumo, who also represents Akko Federal Constituency of Gombe State, commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for providing a peaceful and conducive environment for the hearing.

The high point of the event was the formal presentation of memoranda and demands by representatives from Bauchi, Taraba, and Gombe States.
