The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has received an honorary doctorate from the Federal University Gashua (FUGA).
The prestigious award was presented during the university’s maiden combined convocation ceremony, which took place at the University Sports Arena in Gashua, Yobe State.
In a speech, Governor Buni expressed his gratitude to the university, stating that the award recognises the state government’s commitment to education.
He highlighted the government’s efforts to rebuild and revitalise the education sector, which was severely affected by insurgency in the region.
Notably, the state government has reconstructed over 250 schools, established 15 mega and model schools, and employed over 5,000 qualified teachers.
Governor Buni emphasised the importance of education in driving development and commended the university for providing quality education.
He also encouraged the university to explore entrepreneurial education opportunities to create employment for young people.
Other distinguished recipients of honorary doctorate degrees include the Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, President of the 9th Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and former Head of Service of the Federation, Bukar Goni Aji.
In an address of welcome, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Maimuna Waziri, noted that the awardees were honoured for their outstanding contributions to national development.
She further commended the Yobe State Government for allocating land for the take-off and total expansion of the University.
