Adamawa State Gov’t inaugurates Peace, Conflict Resolution, and Social Integration Commission.

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has inaugurated the Adamawa State Peace, Conflict Resolution, and Social Integration Commission.

The Commission is expected to develop and implement proactive strategies to promote peace and peaceful coexistence across the state.

Speaking during the ceremony at the Government House Yola, Governor Fintiri said the Commission will also handle conflict prevention, non-violent intervention, mediation, and peaceful resolution of communal and inter-ethnic disputes.

Governor Fintiri stressed that the security of lives and property remains a top priority in his administration’s 8-Point Agenda under Adamawa 2.0 where no one is left behind, and nothing is left untouched.

” on assumption of duty in 2019, we commissioned a scoping study on the security situation in the state. This study revealed the fragility of our coexistence and the tension within, a tension that was real but not admitted”.

He said government has invested heavily in peacebuilding, describing it as the foundation for sustainable development.

The governor explained that the Commission was established by Adamawa State Law Number 14 of 2020, signed in 2021 and gazetted in 2022 as Gazette Number 17, Volume 30.

He added that all legal frameworks for its operation are clearly spelled out in the law.

Responding on behalf of the Commission, the Part-time Chairman and Hama Batta, Alhamdu Gladson Teneke, praised the governor for prioritizing peace in his administration.

“Peace is sacrosanct and must be pursued at all costs for the protection of lives and property and as catalyst for any meaningful development”

He assured that the Commission will give its best to build on the strong foundation already laid.

Members of the Commission include Alhamdu Gladson Teneke as Part-time Chairman, Dr. Jamila Suleiman as Executive Vice Chairman, Comrade Mohammed Bello, and retired Air Vice Marshal Nuhungu Nzokala as Permanent Commissioners.

Other members are the Secretary to the State Government, the Attorney General, the Special Adviser on Security, and the Commander of the State Vigilante all serving as Ex-officio members.

Local government chairmen from Maiha, Hong, and Toungo are also on the Commission.

Additional members include Imam Bashir Tahir, Bishop John Shetima Chibok, three representatives from the Traditional Council, three youth representatives, Fatima Raji, Barrister Obi Wycliff Dah from Demsa, Alhaji Sanusi Mustapha, Kabiru Ibrahim from the All Farmers Association, and Dr. Abubakar Umar Girei representing pastoralists.

Abubakar Bacci from the Office of the Head of Service will serve as Secretary of the Commission.
