The Wildlife Conservation Society, WCS has flagged off a vaccination campaign targeting over twelve thousand livestock in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The initiative is part of its social responsibility aimed at preventing Yankari Game Reserve animals from zoonotic diseases.
Speaking at the event, the WCS Livelihood Officer for Yankari Landscape, Dan’baba Madi Kadala, noted that the exercise also aims to promote a healthy livestock population, and encourage livestock farming as a means of boosting the state’s economy.
Madi Kadala explained that the WCS chose Gajin Duguri and its environs to launch the vaccination campaign because these communities surround the Yankari Game Reserve.
The campaign targets over twelve thousand livestock across Alkaleri Local Government Area.
In a remark, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, appreciated the Wildlife Conservation Society for its support and initiative, describing it as one of the best non-governmental organisations in Bauchi State.
The Emir, represented by the District Head of Pali, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Sambo, urged Fulani communities to take advantage of the opportunity by bringing their livestock for vaccination.

Speaking, Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his Personal Assistant on ACReSAL, Danjuma Adamu, said the vaccination campaign was timely given the alarming outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in some parts of the country.
On his part, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alkaleri Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the WCS for the initiative and urged livestock owners to fully participate in the campaign by vaccinating their animals.
