Residents of the Fori community in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State have expressed appreciation to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for the reconstruction of the Fori Bridge, which collapsed during the September 2024 flood.
The collapse of the
bridge had caused serious transportation challenges, especially for university lecturers and students residing in the area who rely on the route to access the University of Maiduguri.
Mallam Umar Mohammed, a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri, said the reconstruction of the bridge has brought much-needed relief to the academic community. “The collapse made it extremely difficult for us to commute to the university, but the governor’s intervention has eased our movement significantly,” he said.
Modu Ali, a commercial tricycle operator, popularly known as a Keke NAPEP rider, also commended the governor for restoring the vital link that connects Fori to the Bama Road highway. He noted that the new bridge has improved their daily operations and reduced delays.
A cross-section of students interviewed did not hide their excitement and gratitude. They described the bridge as a major relief that has shortened their travel time and improved access to lectures.
Ya Bintu Ali, a businesswoman, also expressed her appreciation to the state governor for initiating the reconstruction of the Fori Bridge. She noted that the project would enable them to conduct their businesses more efficiently and attract more customers.
The project is one of several community-based infrastructural interventions initiated by the Zulum administration, aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents across Borno State.
