MDCN Inducts 2nd Set of 54 ATBU Medical Graduands.

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria MDCN has urged Young and Senior Medical Practitioners in the country to imbibe the Patient Centred Approach in their medical practice towards preserving and advancing the cardinal ethics of the profession.

The Registrar of the Council Dr Fatima Kyari made the call at the 2nd Induction and Swearing in ceremony 9of 54 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery MBBS Graduands of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ATBU Bauchi held at 1000 Seater Lecture theatre Yelwa Campus.

Dr Fatima Kyari represented by the Deputy Registrar of the Council Dr Tijjani Mandaka said the patient is always the first priority of the Medical Doctor, hence the need to treat them with respect, kindness, humility and leave no one behind regardless of their platform of practice.

She acknowledged the effort of the present administration in strengthening the healthcare profession through the design and implementation of policies and structures to enhance the integrity of the health system and workforce.

While reiterating the councils support to institutions in expanding their intake of medical students and education capacity, the MDCN Registrar advised the inductees to respect and learn from other healthcare workers especially senior nurses among others.

In a lecture, the Guest Speaker and Opthalmologist from Bayero University Kano BUK, Dr Umar Farouk Ibrahim said medical job is a profession that requires hard work and sacrifice, and urged the inductees to always listen to patients and give convincing explanation, document their medical record and history.

The Vice Chancellor ATBU Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba represented by the DVC Academics Professor Sani Kunya who charged all universities in the country to establish medical colleges to bridge the patients/doctor ratio, noted that the institution has received approval to start BSc Nursing Science and BSC Public Health.

On his part, the State Governor Bala Mohammed represented by the Commission of Health Dr Sani Dambam appreciated the university for its contribution towards training, research and revenue generation of the state, urging the new doctors to avail themselves the opportunity to serve the state.

Earlier, the Provost ATBU College of Medical Sciences Professor Sambo Zailani who listed some of the achievements so far recorded to include full accreditation from NUC and other professionals bodies to run BSc Nursing Science, Public Health, Dentistry among others, called for the granting of partial autonomy for the college to smoothly run a Collegiate system.

In separate remarks on behalf of Parents and the Inductees the Former Bauchi State Deputy Governor Abdulmalik Mahmoud and the Graduands Valedictorian Dr Abdulsamad Ibrahim emphasised the need to imbibe the virtue of integrity, discipline and good character to succeed.
