Prices Of Grain Crashes In Different Markets Across Yobe State.

Prices of food stuffs have begun to crash in different markets across Yobe State.
The significant fall in the prices was as a result of bumper harvest by farmers, which led to the arrivals of new farm products (grain) into the markets.
The Chairman Grain Sellers Association Yobe State, Alh Sulaiman Mohammed commended the farmers for their efforts and contributions towards resuscitating the state of hunger and providing food security.
He called on government and other developmental partners in the agricultural sector to provide subsidized fertilizers, quality seedlings and mechanized farming equipments to help boost irrigation farming.
Alh Sulaiman explained that Millet, Sorghum and Maize, which were sold at the rate of 50,000 to 65,000 in the last three months are now sold between 27,000 to 40,000 and Yobe State alone contributes about 36% of the grain consumed in the Northeastern part of the country.
Other commodities affected by the fall in prices are Rice, Groundnut and other non-perishable goods.
Lamenting on the recent hike in prices of the commodities, the Chairman Marketers Association of Nigeria, Yobe State Council, Alh. Nasiru Mato said the hike in Prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS),Diesel and Dollar exchange rate, also played a vital role on the Prices.
Mato explained that the hardship average Nigerians face cannot be over emphasized as they can hardly afford their usual three square meals.
He called on government to take strict measures on price control and restructure it’s economic team to help move the country forward.
