More than 100 suspected political thugs have been arrested by the police for attempting to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the rerun elections in Bagwai Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango, disclosed this on Saturday during an inspection tour of polling units in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa Local Government Areas, where the rerun elections are currently being conducted.
Ambassador Zango explained that electoral materials were delivered promptly to almost all polling units, with only a few exceptions where delays occurred due to vehicle breakdowns.
He revealed that in those areas where the vehicles broke down, suspected thugs attempted to snatch ballot boxes but were swiftly apprehended by the police.
He commended the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as a massive and well-coordinated deployment of personnel across the affected constituencies, a move that he said was critical to safeguarding the integrity of the process.
“The commitment and dedication of the police and other security agencies in ensuring that these elections are peaceful and credible deserve commendation,” Zango stated.
He assured voters that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was determined to guarantee a transparent process that reflects the will of the people.
The rerun elections in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa are being conducted following court rulings that nullified earlier results in the constituencies.
