Centre for Civilians in Conflict Concludes Advocacy Engagement in Yobe.

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Centre for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), has concluded a two-day advocacy and roundtable discussions with stakeholders in Yobe State.

The engagement aimed to address major challenges affecting civilians and the society.

Community Liaison Officer Aisha Mustafa Kolo stated that CIVIC prioritizes civilian protection, including children, by recognizing, preventing, and addressing problems confronting communities.

The centre according to her, has held engagements in all three zones of the state to propose solutions to issues like market attacks, extra-judicial killings, and bank robberies.

Potiskum Community Liaison Officer Maimuna Mohammed Giwa highlighted the high rate of criminal activities and complaints in Potiskum, which has a significant population and challenges like out-of-school children and street hawking.

Giwa noted that CIVIC has established community protection committees to provide emergency solutions to problems.

Gaidam Local Government Community Liaison Officer Adam Umar Arab commended stakeholders for their support and noted that more needs to be done to address challenges triggered by insurgency in the region.

Stakeholders identified major challenges, including unemployment, drug abuse, child abuse, poverty, and injustice.

Thay proposed solutions included dialogue, awareness creation, empowerment, security control, and job creation.

The Chairman of Potiskum LG, Alh Salisu Muntari, represented by his deputy Hamza Nngojin commended NGOs for their support and called on well-to-do individuals and stakeholders to assist the less-privileged.

The roundtable engagement was attended by traditional rulers, security agencies, politicians, and members of the public.
