NOA Begins Campaign Against Negative Practices, Calls for Citizens’ Collaboration

By Gloria Abutu

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to collaborate with the agency as it embarks on a nationwide campaign to deepen citizens’ awareness of government policies, programmes, and the need to shun negative practices.

Director-General of the Agency, Lanre Issa- Onilu, made the appeal during a press briefing in Yola.

Onilu, who was represented by the Director of Special Duties and State Operations, Mr. David Akoji, said the campaign will be rolled out nationwide and anchored on five thematic areas.

These include discouraging the “sign-out” culture among graduating students of secondary and tertiary institutions, promoting respect for national symbols, sensitization against residing in flood-prone areas, creating awareness of government empowerment programmes such as NELFUND and TraderMoni, and strengthening national security consciousness.

Only explained that activities will include town hall meetings, visits to markets, schools, and rural communities to ensure the messages reach every Nigerian, adding that the exercise will involve direct community engagements in Adamawa state.

According to him, the success of the campaign requires active participation from citizens, stressing that Nigerians must work hand in hand with government to foster positive change and protect lives and property.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Adamawa State Director of NOA, Mr. Richard Bala Dangari, described the sensitization exercise as crucial.

He said Nigerians must constantly be re-oriented to embrace values and behaviours that promote peace, unity, and national development.

Mr. Dangari warned that without proper orientation, people often engage in practices harmful to themselves and the nation, pointing out that the campaign is therefore essential in addressing such issues.

The NOA is expected to roll out the campaign across states, targeting diverse groups with messages that encourage patriotism, safety, and active citizenship.
