Governor Zulum Offers Cash to Parents, Students to Encourage School Enrollment

Governor Babagana Zulum has directed the provision of one square meal to students of higher Islamic schools across Borno State, as part of efforts to encourage enrollment.

The Governor made this announcement during the inauguration of a newly constructed Higher Islamic School and a Government Day Secondary School in Gajiganna town, Magumeri Local Government Area.

The 48-classroom Higher Islamic School in Gajiganna is one of twenty established across the state. This initiative is designed to streamline non-formal education into the formal system by introducing literacy, numeracy, and digital knowledge, enabling graduates to pursue higher education.

The Government Day Secondary School in Gajiganna is among the 104 completed mega schools built across the state, with 34 others currently under construction at various locations.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum urged stakeholders to ensure the maintenance of the facilities and focus on student enrollment and retention.

At the Government Day Secondary School Gajiganna, the Governor announced a donation of N250,000 to the fathers of each of the ninety students and N50,000 to each student, with the same amount provided to their mothers, to enhance enrollment.

At the same occasion, Governor Zulum awarded scholarships up to university level to nine female pupils of Alakaramti school for composing and presenting a song on the importance of education.

The Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Lawan Abba Wakilbe, described the infrastructure as a living monument for resilience, courage, and the collective conviction that education is key to unlocking peace, development, and lasting infrastructure.

The Chairman of the Arabic and Tsangaya Education Board, Khalifa Ahmed Abulfathi, represented by the Executive Secretary Abdulkadir Abdulkarim Harun, stated that Governor Zulum’s determination to advance Islamic and Western education in the state remains a model for others.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, representing Northern Borno, and Usman Zannah, the member representing Magumeri, Gubio, and Kaga Federal Constituency. They applauded Governor Zulum’s commitment to the development of northern Borno and other parts of the state and assured him of their commitment to ensuring enrollment in the senatorial zone
