NRCS Seeks Strengthened Partnership with MDAs, Security, Other Stakeholders

Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS) has called for strengthened collaboration with Ministries, Departments and Agencies, of government as well as security agencies to enable it offer humanitarian assistance to vulnerable persons especially in conflict and disaster situations.

The Chairman of the NRCS, Bauchi State Chapter, Alhaji Aminu Abubakar made the call in Bauchi at a one-day Humanitarian Diplomacy Workshop, organised by the society with support from British Red Cross.

Alhaji Aminu Abubakar said the Workshop aims to educate stakeholders of the activities being carried out by the Nigeria Red Cross Society and interventions it was offering, noting that their clear understanding would go a long way in achieving the set objective.

He emphasised that strengthening collaboration with stakeholders was key in ensuring smooth operation of the NRCS humanitarian support to vulnerable persons, noting that the organisation cannot do it alone.

He explained that, apart from humanitarian intervention in conflict and disaster situations, the NRCS was conducting medical outreaches, health education for pregnant women, participation during immunisation campaigns and disease outbreak response.

On her part, the State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu wanka, assured her ministry’s resolve to sustain collaboration with the NRCS, being an experienced organisation in terms of humanitarian intervention across communities.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Ahmed Muhammad assured readiness of the force to work with the NRCS in rendering humanitarian assistance to victims of disasters anywhere.

The National Disaster Management Officer of NRCS, Abdulrazak Yunusa expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for attending the Humanitarian Diplomacy Workshop and solicited more support and partnership for the benefit of humanity.

Radio Nigeria reports the meeting had in attendance representatives from the North East Development Commission (NEDC), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Service (DSS), Fire Service, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, among others.
