Religious Leaders in Adamawa Urge NEDC to Prioritize Consultation to Instill Sense of Ownership

Religious leaders in Adamawa State have appealed to the North-East Development Commission NEDC to prioritize consultation before executing any people-oriented project in the state and the country at large, in order to build a sense of ownership among beneficiaries.

They made the appeal at a stakeholders’ engagement, themed NEDC Project Ownership by the Community, held in Yola, Adamawa State.

While emphasizing the need to utilize various avenues to promote harmony in society, the religious leaders stressed that civil engagement would go a long way in making project execution easier.

They requested that the NEDC revive the old practice of waste management to help avert the devastating effects of flooding in the state and also rehabilitate the Shila boys for the development of society.

The religious leaders further requested the commission to extend its scholarship program to orphans in the society.

They urged the commission to utilize existing Community Development Plans to ease its work and to serve the people in areas of their needs, in order to build a sense of ownership.

In response, the Adamawa State Coordinator of the North-East Development Commission, Khalifa Lawan, said the commission is using a bottom to top approach and assured them of the NEDC’s readiness to serve the people of the state, the North-East, and the nation at large.

The NEDC, Adamawa State Coordinator appreciated the religious leaders for honoring the invitation and pledged to work collaboratively with every stakeholder for the development of the state.
