A non governmental organisation, Centre for Civilians In Conflict, has called on Monguno community to always report suspicious activities that threaten their community’s protection.
The call was made at a 2 day roundtable meeting held on 3rd and 4th of September 2025 in Monguno town.
The meeting brought together community leaders, security actors, and civilians to brainstorm on security issues, bedevilling the people and how they can develop local solutions to coordinate their efforts.
The facilitator who is the senior community manager, team led CIVIC NIGERIA Bulus Mango Park, said the aim of the roundtable meeting is to strengthen civilian protection and community resilience in identifying threats in the host community through advocacy.
He explained that CIVIC mandate is to protect civilians caught in conflict and harm caused to them are been minimized.
According to Mango Park, the community are the agents of change of their own situations, which is achieved through deliberation between security actors and the host community to mitigate their protection need.
He said CIVIC Nig had set up various platforms to discuss issues threatening their society.
He said that they believe in local initiatives, ownership, sustainability and continuity even when Ngo’s are not at their disposal, they can discuss their protection concern through analysis and present profound solutions.
Bulus Mango Park added that at the end of the roundtable meeting they need to ensure security forces commitment are been achieved through participation of all the relevant community members and urged the participants to always report any hindrance to the relevant authorities.
Cornell I A Mohammed, advice the community to always come together by identifying the immediate problem and try to solve the threat.
In their separate remarks some of the participants commended CIVIC Organization for the timely roundtable, which gave them a deeper understanding of how to protect themselves and others in the face of security threats, and also a necessary tool towards sustainable peace.
