Taraba State Government Seeks Extension of Operation Whirl Stroke.

Taraba state Governor Dr Agbu Kefas has appealed to the Defence Headquarters to extend it’s current Operation Whirl Stroke to cover states bordering Taraba.

Dr. Kefas made the appeal when he received the Chief of Defence Operations, Major – General Emeka Onumajuru, who is on an assessment visit to Taraba state.

Governor Kefas noted that operation Whirl Stroke over the past seven years has tremendously assisted in tackling criminality within Taraba state, hence the need to expand the operation to border states to holistically combat cross-border crime and enhance national security.

According to him, Taraba State is currently enjoying relative peace due to the deliberate efforts by his administration to prioritize security.

He equally disclosed that he has requested the deployment of a drown joint platoon with technological support to monitor Taraba’s border areas and assured that securing Taraba will remain his major priority.

Governor Kefas commended troops of 6 Brigade for their commitment towards maintaining peace across the state.

In a remark, the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Onumajuru said the purpose of his visit was to assess the security situation in Taraba, review the performance of troops, understand the challenges and as well explore areas for improvement.

He further explained that Sector 3 of the Nigerian Army was established to enhance security in the region and noted that the situation in Taraba had significantly improved.

The Chief of Operations commended Governor Kefas for the tremendous support given to the Army, adding that the achievements recorded in the state were largely due to his commitment to security.

After the meeting, Governor Kefas, in company of Major General Emeka Onumajuru and other officers, commissioned 8 AV Amour trucks and 4 flying boats aimed at sustaining the fight against criminality across the state.
