Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has launched a massive food distribution programme aimed at providing relief to vulnerable households across the state’s 17 local government areas.

The Programme, part of the state’s Food Security Drive initiative, will distribute 50,000 bags of assorted grains, including rice, maize, sorghum, and millet.

According to Governor Buni, the program is designed to support vulnerable households, particularly those affected by the recent floods that claimed lives and properties in the state.

“The government is conscious of the challenges posed by such calamities, and the difficulties that usually accompany the farming circle between planting and harvesting seasons,” Governor Buni said.

He emphasized that the state government is committed to providing succor to its people, mitigating the impact of the floods, and restoring hope and dignity to those affected.

Buni pointed out that the distribution programme will benefit various categories of people, including vulnerable households, primary school teachers, primary healthcare center workers, persons with special needs, and junior cadre civil servants.

Governor Buni charged the distribution committee to ensure that the grains are distributed to the targeted beneficiaries, urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the support to overcome hunger and live with dignity.

The governor also commended the Federal Government for aligning national priorities with the state’s efforts to achieve food security through the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Buni added that the food distribution programme is part of the state government’s efforts to promote agricultural development, irrigation farming, and economic growth in Yobe State.
