The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reaffirmed its commitment towards strengthening the capacities of the local actors to effectively implement humanitarian and development Programmes in the North East region.

The Emergency Field Specialist with the UNICEF, Maiduguri field office, Josephine Nneka, stated this at a dialogue session with the local actors, organised by the UNICEF in collaboration with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Mrs Josephine Nneka said that with the local actors’ engagement, UNICEF will be able to reach every child, regardless of hard-to-reach locations.

She pointed out that one of UNICEF’s visions is to ensure total coverage without leaving any child behind.

Speaking at the event the Director of Rescue Operations, SEMA, Dr Mohammed Jalo, thanked UNICEF for responding to their call, saying that organising the three-day capacity building training for the local actors came at a needed time.

Dr Jalo said that the local actors, being the first responders, need to improve their skills on the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM), which will equip them to know more about their responsibilities.

One of the local actors, Kachalla Bukar Mustapha, commended the UNICEF and the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for organising the dialogue session.

He explained that the training will help address some of the challenges being faced in some local communities before attending the session.

He further assured their commitment by applying the knowledge acquired when implementing humanitarian services in their local communities.
