Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations team have in the day two of their five days working visit, travelled Bama Community the headquarters of Bama local government area of Borno State to assess the progress made in the plantation of different varieties of seedlings and engaged the Community Interest Group (CIG) on the way and manner of sustaining the plants.
Expert Advisor to ACReSAL Project Abuja, Mr Musa Shuaibu representing National Project Coordinator ACReSAL had while addressing the Community Interest Group (CIG) of Bama at Bama local government Secretariat’s Conference hall said their visit was to have first hand information of the ongoing project in Bama and to profer solutions to the challenges encountered by the CIGs in managing the seedlings up to tree level.
Earlier speaking, Acting Project Coordinator ACReSAL Borno, Engineer Bukar Modu Goba explained that FAO project in Bama was one of the many other ones under the restoration of the degraded and commended them for the interventions.

The FAO team proceeded to Umar Ibn Ibrahim Collage of Education, Science and Technology one of the side where FAO project been sited.
The Provost of the Collage Professor Tijjani Kalli who received the team informed them about the effect of Boko Haram Insirgency on the institution which also affects it’s Eco system and therefore expressed the need for the restoration of the degraded lands in the Collage.
The FAO team headed by Engineer Precioua Agbesor inspected the project sites where seedlings were planted and reiterated to support the implementation committee at the replacement of lost seedlings and all other challenges faced by them to realised it maturity.
Thereafter, the team were also at another project side immediately after Government Senior Science Secondary School Bama where the Executive Director Global Environmental Response Initiative (GERI), Dr Aphaji Ngarii Dogo took the team round and informed them about the quantum of the seeds planted as well as the methods used in the plantation, the FAO team commended them for the feat recorded and recommended some certain ways to achieve the desired objectives.
Gender Specialist ACReSAL National Office Abuja, Mrs Helen John interacted and engaged the Community Interest Group (CIGs) on the significance of a tree not only on the environment, but also on the human beings and animal, hence the need for the CIGs to guard and protect the seedlings.
The FAO team paid a Courtesy call on the Shehu of Bama, his royal highness Umar Ibn Kyari Umar Elkanemi and told the Shehu about their mission in Bama.
The Shehu expressed gratitude for the team for considering Bama out of the only three (3) local government earmarked for the project and assured to support the project for the betterment of his people.
Dr Imar Ibn Kyari Umar Elkanemi therefore decorated all the FAO team with traditional/royal attire including Bama made Cap to serve as reference for each Member of the team for the remembrance of Bama and it’s People
