Executive Chairman Mafa local government, Sanusi Mustapha hosting FAO team in his office

Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has commended ACReSAL Borno for the adoption of Delfino technology in the plantation of seedlings in Mafa local government area of Borno State.
FAO team lead of the Visit Engineer Precioua Agbesor gave the commendation during their day three (3) working visit at one of the field where varieties of seedlings are already planted in Mafa.
Delfino technology is a method of plantation of seedlings by digging a slope in between the seedlings to absorb water that will sustain the whole row of the seedlings at the side.
Executive Director Global Environmental Response Initiative (GERI), one of the service provider to ACReSAL Borno, Dr Alhaji Ngari Dogo who took the team round the field and informed them that it is 159 hectares of land acquired for the project and assured to utilised the whole land to grow the trees.
Agric Expert Advisor to ACReSAL Project Abuja who also Chairs FAO/FPMU Project implementation committee, Mr Cyril Bikom described the project as one of those initiated to achieve the ACReSAL mandate across nineteen Northern States including Federal Capital Territory to restore back degraded lands for the safety of environments and to attain robust farming activities.

FAO had in the field inspected most of the seedlings to assess viability to tree level and contended but made some recommmendations in order to achieve the desired objectives.
Earlier before their visit to the field, FAO team paid a Courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman Mafa local government area of Borno State, Sanusi Mustapha and informed him about their mission in the State.
FAO team lead Engineer Precioua Agbesor said the visit is to appreciate the Community Interest Group (CIGs) of Mafa and all other Persons supporting the project as well as to provide the enabling environment for the Parties involved.
Also speaking at the visit, Expert Advisor to ACReSAL Project Abuja, Musa Shisibu said the project was as a result of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Environment’s approach to World Bank to support Nigeria government in the restoration of degraded lands, and the subsequent response of World Bank that witnessed the commencement of the project.
The Chairman Mafa local government, Sanusi Mustapha thanked the FAO team for including to them to also include other areas of the State which are in need of the interventions.
He said he allocated four kilometres of land for the project and expressed optimism on the benefit of the project for Mafa local government area of Borno State
