The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the North East Development Commission (NEDC), said, is working closely with the six governors of the North Eastern States to provide sustainable infrastructure for the post-recovery development of the region.
This was disclosed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, in Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital, during the symbolic handover of the 25km first phase of the reconstruction of the Damaturu-Buni Yadi-Magza interstate road, which links Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa States, to Greyland Multiple Investment Construction Company Ltd.
Represented at the event by the Yobe State Coordinator of the North East Development Commission, Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, Alkali said the project is segmented into two phases, as contained in the North East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan.
He expressed confidence in the quality standard of Greyland Multiple Investment and stated that the second phase of the project will be awarded to the same company upon completion of the first phase.
MD, NEDC, outline some of the completed projects ready for handover to the Yobe State Government which include: 2-Span Bridge Along Damaturu-Gujba Road (Gujba LGA) and 2-Span 30m Bridge at Jumbam, Tarmuwa LGA.
According to Alkali some of the ongoing projects in Yobe State include: Construction of Single-Span of 20m Bridge at Kaliyari road, Tarmuwa LGA, 2 spans-30m Bridge with 2.6km approach Road at old Prison and 3 spans-40m Bridge along Tandari Road in Potiskum LGA.
“The Commission continues to do more accessment in collaboration with the Yobe State Ministry of Works to have more and more projects to complement the efforts of his excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni in Yobe State”, He added.
The Commissioner of the Yobe State Ministry of Works, Engr Umaru Wakili Dudaye, commended NEDC for its developmental efforts and described the key border route as a potential hub for agriculture and border trade.
The Managing Director of Greyland Multiple Investment Limited, Musa Abubakar Imam, assured the Commission and the Yobe State Government of the company’s commitment to ensuring quality and timely completion of the project within the agreed 12-month period.
