The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN, has charged staff across all departments to leverage the digital space in its activities towards attracting more revenue for improved service delivery.

The Director General of FRCN, Dr Mohammed Bulama gave the charge at the opening of a 1-day Seminar on the Rudiments of Management and Financial Regulations organised for General Managers, Heads of Administration and Finance of the Northeast Zone held in Bauchi.

Dr Mohammed Bulama represented by the Director Finance and Accounts Malam Musa Bako said Radio Nigeria has transitioned from the traditional way of generating money to off air sources such as social media monitisation, hence the need for all staff to key into the initiative.

“Come into broadcasting in terms of coverages how those things can be done with balance reporting even in our engineering sector, our hands needs to be upskilled. I mean they need to have modern knowledge of technology, our ICT people, marketing -we must begin to look at other means of generating revenue stream not just the traditional method of advert or sponsorship, we must be looking at non-air ventures”, the DG says.

He said the training is part of the corporation’s drive to empower staff with knowledge and working tools to face the challenges posed by the ever growing digital world in terms of modern equipments and skills.

Earlier, the Zonal Director North-East Malam Dahiru Garba said the training was convened to aquaint the participants with basic leadership skills and financial prudence following the reconstitution of the entire Zonal leadership, including the various FM stations and departments to work in-line with the established rules and regulations guiding the organisation.

“We’ve thought it wise that whenever you are given new responsibility, you should acquaint yourself of the nitty-gritty of how to run things because FRCN is a public institution and there are rules of engagement in whatever you do and we need to acquaint ourselves of those rules”, Northeast Zonal Director explains.

While acknowledging the critical importance of the training to current challenges, the Zonal Director promised to ensure that the knowledge is cascaded to all staff of the zone for seamless administration.

Presenting a paper titled “Building a Collaborative work culture with other departments”, the Former Director Administration of the Corporation Mr Jimoh Ibrahim urged the participants especially admin staff to know the dos and don’ts of the public service, internal rules and regulations of the FRCN and ensure coordination among various departments towards realising the goals of the organisation.

“What the Public Service is all about is we see ourselves playing our role as public servants to also situate this role within the corporate responsibility of Radio Nigeria and besides the admin also advise and ensures the execution of welfare of the various organizations they belong and in this case we are talking of FRCN and admin does all of this with human face”, the administrator notes.

The seminar which saw the Director Finance and Accounts Musa Bako deliver a paper on Operational and Financial Challenges of FRCN FM Stations, had about forty participants in attendance.
