Yobe State Government and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have signed a Service Level Agreement (SLA) to commence full commercial operations at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport (MBICA), Damaturu.
According to statement by the Director General, Press and Media Affairs to Governor Buni, Mamman Mohammed, the agreement was signed on 10th December 2025, at NAMA, with NAMA’s Managing Director, Mr. Farouq Ahmed Umar, and Yobe State Government representatives, the Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Hon. Muhammad Muhammad Bara, and Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Abba Geidam, FCVSN, signing the agreement.
The agreement outlines NAMA’s services, including Air Traffic Control, Communication Services, Navigation and Surveillance Systems, Aeronautical Information Services, and Search and Rescue Coordination Support, ensuring MBICA’s compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
Governor Mai Mala Buni described the agreement as a significant step towards opening Yobe State to global aviation, trade, and investment opportunities.
He, therefore, commended the Ministry of Transport and Energy, NAMA, and technical partners for their dedication, noting MBICA’s potential to boost economic activities, job creation, and infrastructural modernization.
Buni pointed out that the Ministry of Transport and Energy is committed to working with NAMA and stakeholders to fast-track MBICA’s certification and readiness for commercial flights, including the 2026 Hajj pilgrims’ departure and arrival.
The Ministry of transport and energy extends appreciation to Governor Mai Mala Buni, for his visionary leadership and continued investment in infrastructure that will benefit the people of Yobe State for decades to come.
