In an effort to cushion the effects of flooding on victims, the Adamawa State Government has approved the immediate disbursement of a relief fund amounting to six hundred and eleven million naira.

This was disclosed at an Emergency Committee meeting chaired by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, in Yola.

The Deputy Governor explained that the approval was necessitated by the Yola South flood, which had attracted significant public concern, adding that the committee considered it necessary to urgently address the situation.

According to her, over five thousand households affected by the Yola South flood were captured and categorised into mildly and severely impacted groups.

Professor Farauta noted that the delay in disbursement was due to the committee’s resolve to identify genuine victims and verify the number of deaths recorded during the disaster.

While noting that flooding is an annual occurrence, she appealed to residents, particularly those living in flood-prone areas, to relocate to higher ground whenever necessary.

The Deputy Governor also urged traditional rulers to ensure that houses and other structures are not built on waterways and that lands along waterways are not sold.

She assured citizens that every kobo entrusted to the committee would be judiciously utilised and that all affected persons would receive support to ease the impact of the recent flood.

Professor Farauta appreciated donors for their contributions towards alleviating the suffering of the victims.

She further disclosed that the committee has approved the immediate delivery of food and non-food items to victims of the communal conflict in Lamurde Local Government Area.
